(Radnor, PA) – Community Energy today announced the results of its Earth Day Green Power Challenge. Twelve organizations accepted the challenge and committed to purchase a total of over 42,000,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of clean, homegrown wind energy. These commitments will prevent the estimated release of 24,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere – approximately equivalent to planting more than 21,000 acres of trees or removing 5,000 cars from the road.
The challenge also demonstrates the diverse range of organizations that choose wind power, from higher education to municipalities to pharmaceutical companies. Participants in the challenge include: Haverford College, Paul Smith’s College, Naropa University, Badger Balm, 66 North, VIBRAM, Adler Planetarium in Chicago, The Nathan Cummings Foundation, Bensalem Township in Pennsylvania and the Town of Bethany, Connecticut.
“We are so pleased that this wide range of organizations stepped up to meet the Earth Day Challenge and commit to fuel-free, renewable energy,” said Brent Alderfer, Founder and Vice-President of Community Energy. “We look forward to working with these customers to spread awareness of the benefits of wind energy.”
