When it comes to environmental responsibility, one skin care company stands above the competition.  Origins Natural Resources – a brand of botanically-based beauty and wellness products using all natural ingredients – has partnered with Community Energy to purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from wind farms located in New York State and throughout the nation. Origins' corporate headquarters is in New York City so they are pleased to be making a difference in their region by purchasing local New York wind. 

As a company that prides itself on promoting and strengthening the necessary bond between nature and personal well being, Origins’ purchase of 7,196,000 kilowatt hours (kWhs) of emissions-free, renewable wind energy is a logical step in furthering their environmental goals. Origins' purchase will offset electricity usage equal to 100% of the energy used by its US standalone retail stores, manufacturers of Origins' products in company-owned facilities, and third parties manufacturing Origins' products. 

Compared to the average generation mix in the New York and National electric grids, Origins’ renewable energy purchase offsets the creation of over 4,300 metric tons of carbon dioxide.  This is the environmental equivalent of planting over 3,800 acres of trees or not driving over 10,700,000 miles each year.

Origins’ use of renewable energy is significant not only for its immediate environmental impact, but also for the public awareness raised through their many efforts to communicate and promote the purchase.  Origins’ President Lynne Greene has already released an internal letter explaining wind energy basics and providing employees the opportunity to sign up their households for renewable energy.  In addition, Origins plans to launch an affinity program whereby visitors to their stores can sign up to receive wind energy for their homes.  In this way, Origins hopes to have a far-reaching and significant impact in promoting renewable energy to the public.  With their purchase of emissions-free wind energy, Origins has truly established themselves as leaders in the field of environmental responsibility and demonstrated that concern for the environment and business success can go hand-in-hand.
