Locust Ridge Wind Farm

As a resident of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, Joe Green always fought the wind at his ridge top home. He cheerfully recounts retrieving his windswept trash cans from his neighbors' lawn repeatedly. Inspiration struck him as he drove past the Somerset wind farm one day on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and he and his wife Angel began investing their spare time and personal finances into the development of a commercial-scale wind power facility.

Joe and Angel's hard work turned into IBERDROLA RENEWABLES' first wind farm in the United States. In an area hard hit by the decline of coal, the energy industry has not given up on the county - 13 wind turbines from Spanish manufacturer Gamesa, who now build these turbines in three Pennsylvania factories, now sprout along Locust Ridge in 2006.

Location: Mahanoy City, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania
Owner: IBERDROLA RENEWABLES
Power Purchaser: PPL EnergyPlus
Turbines: 13 Gamesa 2.0 MW
Commercial Operation: 2007
